{"id":58,"date":"2004-04-04T15:11:12","date_gmt":"2004-04-05T05:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.andrewjohnson.me.uk\/blog\/?p=58"},"modified":"2004-04-04T15:11:12","modified_gmt":"2004-04-05T05:11:12","slug":"linksys-wap54g-warning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/andyjohnson.uk\/blog\/2004\/04\/04\/linksys-wap54g-warning\/","title":{"rendered":"Linksys WAP54G: Warning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have a Linksys <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linksys.com\/products\/product.asp?grid=33&amp;scid=35&amp;prid=601\">WAP54G<\/a> wifi router <em>and<\/em> you want to update the firmware <em>and<\/em> you live outside the US, make sure you download the correct non-US version.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday (six days ago) I upgraded the firmware on our router (a BEFSR41) and access-point (a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linksys.com\/products\/product.asp?grid=33&amp;scid=35&amp;prid=601\">WAP54G<\/a>) to the latest versions. In the case of the A\/P this was version 2.02.7. Everything worked fine.<\/p>\n<p>Today it just stopped working. After <em>six<\/em> days! Connections wouldn&#8217;t authenticate and I couldn&#8217;t access the A\/P&#8217;s configuration screens to diagnose the problem. After a couple of very frustrating hours I finally nailed it, thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dslreports.com\/forum\/remark,9333092~mode=flat\">this<\/a> page opn dslreports. Somewhat surprisingly, there is a difference between US and international hardware. Non-US hardware needs a special international version of the firmware. A non-US device will allow you to upload the US-specific firmware, but operation will be erratic. To find non-US firmware it, click &#8216;International&#8217; on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linksys.com\/\">Linksys<\/a> home page and navigate to the product downloads via an unnecessary flash page. The UK version (1.08) of the firmware is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linksys.com\/international\/firmware.asp?intfwid=28&amp;coid=6\">here<\/a>.
